Guest House with Molly Andrews of Chairloom

Posted on April 20, 2011 in More Fun by | 6 comments

This week we are so proud to host Molly Andrews in our Guest House. Molly is the creator of Chairloom, a local Main Line design service that specialises in the reinvention of antique furniture by reupholstering pieces with fun, fresh fabrics. We love her creative vision, her passion for reusing and reinventing and her childhood memories of Lilly clothing. She used to watch her Lilly clad grandmother rescue injured pelicans with her bare hands and walk them gently to the vet. Now that’s a woman to be admired! With Earth Day this Friday we thought her story was the perfect focus. A few weeks back, we gave Molly some of our left over Summer 2011 fabric, she provided a chair that she found while sifting through a thrift store and we headed to her upholsterer. It was amazing to watch the chair’s transformation. Upholstery is a true art and now one of our lucky readers will be the proud owner of the finished product. Entry details will follow soon but in the meantime check out our q&a to learn more about Molly Andrews and Chairloom.

Placing the Perfect Print

Posted on April 19, 2011 in Inspiration by | Comment

Special. Unique. Dare we say…Extraordinary! As you know we design every print, every pattern, every stripe, every embroidery in our SPECIAL UNIQUE EXTRAORDINARY print studio. Most of the time, we make these print what we call ‘all over’. So it’s just a print (ummm, as if ‘just a print’ could ever describe a lilly print but that is a topic for another day!). Lately, as you may have seen, we have started making our prints even more SPECIAL UNIQUE and EXTRAORDINARY by taking bits of them out of the “all over” setting and placing them on the dress. It just makes them MORE SPECIAL UNIQUE and EXTRAORDINARY. I mean, we are always wanting to delight you. And for us, MORE is exactly as it sounds…DELIGHTFULLY MORE. Then somehow by making it less of an all over print, these become even more special. How can that be? Let’s chalk it up to the magic of the print studio.

Store of the Week – The Palm on Park

Posted on April 18, 2011 in More Fun by | 5 comments

Back to the islands we go for our Store of the Week- this time it’s Boca Grande!  The beautiful island of Boca Grande, FL is home to The Palm on Park, a small shop is a small town- both with great big hearts! They admit their store isn’t a “lets-just-stop-by” kinda place but after reading this and seeing their Lilly pink nightly sunsets (pictured above), you’ll definitely want to drive out of your way to say hello and shop with these ladies!

Location: 444 4th Street, Boca Grande, FL

Store Hours: 9am-5pm Monday through Saturday, year round!

Find them online or connect with them on Facebook

A little background… Our store owner is Jennifer Burch and I’m Kris, Boyden- the store manager. We were one of the first accounts to sign up with Brad & Scott when they bought Lilly from Lilly! The brand never went out of fashion here-  ladies were always trying to find it- mostly in thrift stores at the time. When the brand started up again, we started growing with it! We started in a little corner of Ariel LTD and quickly outgrew that spot, moving into a separate store thus becoming “The Palm on Park” in 1998.  We are now selling to our fifth generation of Lilly lovers!!! More than one grandmother reports to us, after picking up their visiting grandkids from the airport, the first question the little ones ask is “When can we go to the Lilly store???? We want to go to the pink and green store!!!!!” It’s such an honor for us to be a part of their yearly family traditions.

Barnum’s Animals and Lilly Pulitzer team up again!

Posted on April 15, 2011 in More Fun by | 16 comments

We had so much fun with the Barnum’s Animal crackers partnership last year that we called our friends at Kraft and brought it back with an adorable, updated design- just in time for our Lilly Loves the Arts celebration! And because of this year’s arts theme, we’ve brought this fun partnership full circle through our support of Urban Arts Partnership.

So the big question is… where are these [1.5 million!!] cartons going to be popping up?? Well…we’re not sure so we need YOUR help! We’ve created a Barnum’s Animals & Lilly Pulitzer Cracker Tracker (http://bit.ly/crackertracker) that allows you to share where you’ve discovered these colorful hidden treasures. Just type in your zip, add a description and voila- you’re queen of the Scavenger Hunt! And don’t be surprised if you see some popping up in Lilly Pulitzer retailers near you too- our stores have a few stashed in the back…

And we’d love to SEE you finding those boxes! We had so much fun seeing your pictures on Facebook last year that we hope you share with us again! Get your friends together and snap a quick photo of you with these colorful cartons because who knows…we may have some prizes stashed somewhere too!

Happy Hunting! Happy Munching!

Lilly Loves the Junior League!

Posted on April 13, 2011 in Inspiration by | 9 comments

We’re very excited to welcome Susan Danish, Executive Director of The Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc., into our Guest House today.  Building better communities through service is something very near and dear to Lilly’s heart and the Junior League and their members embody that ideal so partnering with the Junior League to create a custom Murfee was an easy decision.  We asked Susan to tell us a little more about the Junior League so we could share it with all of you…

Tell us a little about the Junior League

The first Junior League was founded in New York City in 1901 and today there are 292 Leagues in four countries – Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom and the United States. There are 155,000 members. Junior Leagues are organizations of women who, through their volunteer leadership and activities, work to improve their communities. Each Junior League is a volunteer led and run nonprofit organization that assesses the most pressing needs in its community and then either creates a program or partners with other organizations, businesses and / or local government to create or build programs that address those needs. Through the decades Leagues have tackled issues like domestic violence, women and alcohol, early childhood education and literacy, human trafficking, childhood obesity, the environment and more.

Junior League members have gone on to found nonprofits, sit on nonprofit boards, run nonprofits, hold appointed or elected offices. Today in the U.S., there are Junior League members in the Senate and House, and one of our most prominent members was the first women appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court, Sandra Day O’Connor. Junior Leagues are diverse organizations who welcome all women who share their passion for giving back and doing so in a meaningful way.

Printed Perfection

Posted on April 12, 2011 in Inspiration by | Comment

We know you love hearing the insider stories behind our prints and we love showcasing the amazing work our print designers do on a daily basis. (It’s not very Lilly-like to brag but this stuff is cooool!) Our latest delivery celebrates the fine art of block and stamp printing. And like all of our prints, these were created by hand… literally, down to the carved linoleum and wood blocks used in this technique that give these incredible prints a chic yet slightly imperfect look!

Check out the above creation of our Punch Pink Stamped print made by our beloved print designer, Rebecca! She spent all afternoon carving this layout. Can you spot the giraffes hidden in the leaves?? Flash forward from block carving, to print, to amazingly fun spring styles. Wear this art with a smile knowing so much love went into creating it for you!

And be sure to check out the Worth Blue Pressed print by Jeff and the Painter’s Block and Multi Rollin prints by Stacey.

Store of the Week – The Lazy Daisy

Posted on April 11, 2011 in More Fun by | 2 comments

The Lazy Daisy is located at 919 Azalea Lane in Vero Beach, Florida.  Owner, Julie Knight, has been a fan of Lilly since childhood. Her earliest memories include wonderful trips to the Naples store with her Grandmother to purchase her Easter dress and bikini!! She continues to carry on this tradition at the Lazy Daisy, a 100% Lilly Pulitzer store that has been dressing generations of Lilly Lovers for the last 15 years.  “Many of the customers that we dressed in Minnies, we are now fitting in white dresses for high school graduations!”

The Lazy Daisy has earned many bragging rights throughout the years, from Signature Store of the year, to the best Customer Service Award.  However, their favorite “bragging rights” are the compliments that come from their customers who say they have the best selection of any Lilly store they have been to.  They love Lazy Daisy’s small town feel, toys for the kids and rocker for Grandma.  Their goal at the end of the day is to create a memory for each generation of customers that come through our door – clearly that’s working with their customers!

Vero Beach was just voted a top vacation destination for 2011 so be sure to visit Lazy Daisy in-store or on Facebook or e-mail them at lazydaisy@somanystores.com.  They would love to show you some of their favorite spring items! (like the Blossom Dress in First Impression!!)

Spring Break or Bust!

Posted on April 7, 2011 in More Fun by | 1 comment

Be sure to enter the Sunglass giveaway below!

One of the best things about Spring Break is the anticipation of it. Maybe it’s just us, but packing (and shopping!) for Spring Break is almost as fun as actually going on Spring break! (notice we said almost) For weeks, the piles on the window seat get higher and higher, the bags that once collected dust under your bed are pulled out and dusted off and the sandals from the back of your closet are moved to the front. It seems like it’s been winter FOREVER and you cannot wait to welcome spring in all your Lilly revelry!

And whatever you do, DO NOT forget to pack your sunglasses. Do you realize they are one of the most important accessories you can bring? Why oh why? Let us count the reasons…
- Catch the red-eye flight out after exams but don’t want to miss a minute with your gal pals? Hide those bags behind a pair of shades!
- Speaking of red-eyes, perhaps you stayed out a weeeeeee bit passed your bed time? Red-eyes be gone! (or at least be hidden)
- What Lilly girl doesn’t love sunshine?! But what party-throwing Lilly girl hasn’t thought this the morning after: “It. Is. Too. Bright. Out. Here.”
- OMG. Do you see that guy 3 chairs down?! Don’t look noooww. Yup. You need sunglasses on if you’re going to steal a glance and go unnoticed.
- OR… perhaps you WANT TO be noticed. These adorable shades can do that too. Perfect for looking chic and being beach-ready.

Now the most difficult choice – WHICH sunglasses to choose? We love the Pepper! The hint of print is so chic and this style is also offered in an Rx sun lens through local opticians. We will choose 4 lucky winners at random to receive a pair of the Pepper sunglasses pictured above. Enter HERE now!

And because wearing just sunglasses on Spring Break would raise quite a few eyebrows, we thought we’d throw out some pieces we think would be perfect for you to add to that pile and then stuff in your bag.

1. Beachy Brief in Green Bean Daisy Darling 2. Murfee Scarf Dip Dye in Hotty Pink 3. Pepper Sunglasses 4. Nook Cover in Secret Garden 5.Cotton Paley Cardigan in Hotty Pink 6. Halsey Dress in Green Bean Stamped- coming soon!! 7. Koozie in Hotty Pink Bloomers 8. Don’t Be Koi Sandal

Contest ends Friday, April 15th at 4:00PM ET. A random winner will be selected and notified via e-mail. See complete contest rules here.
