Ooooooobviously we wanted to do a firework print. Given. But not just run of the mill, bought-at-South-of-the-Border sparkler kind of fireworks. We wanted to go BIG…
When Janie was little, her mom, who is one billion percent more of a rule breaker than Janie (apparently it is hereditary), used to talk about cherry bombs – AKA M-80′s. When she was a kid, she & her cousins would find dead fish (they were already dead, people) that washed up on the beach, put cherry bombs inside, light them, and then sling-shot them over the tennis courts while her parents were enjoying their afternoon game. Not joking. And cherry bombs are now…hmmm, surprisingly illegal. Janie says there are more stories where that came from, we’re a little worried.
So go celebrate BIG this holiday weekend. You are the bomb in this print!

It’s no surprise that a lot of our stores are located in Florida or near the beach somewhere but is that fair to our landlocked Lilly Lovers? NO! That’s why Lilly Pulitzer was brought westward in 2001 with the opening of Under the Palm Tree in Overland, Kansas. Our new[ish] owner, Mimi Markel-Alderman, is going to share a little bit about Under the Palm Tree and why she’s thrilled to brighten up the midwest with some Lilly…

I have been a huge Lilly Lover all of my life. I love all the amazing colors and the colorful life story that goes with it! My Mother, who is now 86 years old wore Lilly and started me in Little Lilly shifts when I was young. I continue to carry on this tradition with my children Annie and Betsy. I feel the color and prints make people happy and show a great enjoyment of life. I had been in sales for over twenty years and was interested in owning a Lilly Pulitzer store for many years- now I do!
Overland Park, Kansas has been voted one of the best places to live in the country. Our shopping center is made up of many specialty stores owned and operated by their owners. It is a special outdoor mall with many diverse stores and recently, we had the pleasure of bringing 3 of our customers, who won a Facebook contest, to our great city for our Grand Anniversary Party. It was terrific to meet these customers and share our success with them! We really pride ourselves on our excellent customer service. Our staff works each day to make sure our customers needs and wants are always met. We even have an extra helper on our team – a Bischon named Lilly who is Hotty Pink!
My favorite product from the Summer of 2011 is anything in the Hotty Pink Skinny Dippin Print. I love to swim and three of my children are very active in their swim and dive programs. This print is the true essence of Summer Time Fun.

I’m an open book & I love storytelling so I figured since shorts are totally the ‘it’ item this summer, I’d tell you my short[s] story…
Sooo….I am a Walsh. What does that mean? Well the Walsh is the 3” inseam (aka the shortest). Walsh = sassy. I wear mine with our Resort Chic wedge and an off the shoulder top. Lots of blonde hair and double the jewelry. Hello shorts to a cocktail party!
Now…this may be POUR MOI, but we have short POUR VOUS, and VOUS and VOUS.
Are you a Callahan? This is our best selling short. It’s a 5” inseam and can be worn everywhere…all the time. Really, I love to see it dressed up for cocktails but it RULES as a day-in-day-out go-to short. There are about a million prints to choose from. TDF.
Are you a Buttercup? I kinda want to be a Buttercup just for the name. The Buttercup takes the 5” inseam of the Callahan and does something oh soooo Lilly…adds a SCALLOP. Hello – amazing.
Are you a Resort short? A 10” inseam gives you coverage and room to stretch those legs…while showing off some print. I will be annoyed at you if you insert ‘conservative’ here…the resort short is a classic and takes on a whole NEW level of chic when paired with heels, a printed top and 900 gold bangles- not 1 less.
Sooo, what’s your story?? We want to know. Send pics! xx – Janie
We hope you’ll be as excited as we are about our latest partnership and house guest — we have partnered with the National Aquarium in Baltimore and today, we have Jennifer Dittmar, Stranding Coordinator for the National Aquarium’s Marine Animal Rescue Program in our Guest House! (beach, animal & Lilly Lovers, rejoice!)
Through our partnership, we designed a signature Murfee scarf to celebrate the Aquarium’s 30th anniversary! Excuse the bragging while we tell you how BEA-U-TI-FUL this Murfee is – we think you’ll love that we featured several of the Aquarium’s residents—the intelligent octopus, the colorful sea stars and the endangered sea turtle (more on them later!) —as well as a secret message hidden in the print! (so secret we think only the print team knows!) Of course the folks from the National Aquarium are as excited as were are… We were so thrilled to partner with Lilly Pulitzer on the creation of this print – her design celebrating these magnificent sea creatures coupled with the vibrant and playful colors captures the fun of a visit to the National Aquarium! And so many of us here love that Lilly Pulitzer’s designs are inspired by the sea, we just knew our supporters would love this design too!
We’re happy to tell you that some of our family of Signature Stores are running a 2-day savings event! Visit your favorite participating store or website* June 23-24 to see what kind of fabulousness is still available!

Owner’s Names: Steve and Margaret Smith
A little history from us: We started buying Lilly product for one of our other stores, Wilmington Country Store, in Greenville, DE in the late 1990’s. WCS was actually one of the first stores to carry Lilly Pulitzer after it was relaunched- we’ve loved Lilly since the early days! We decided to open our Annapolis store dedicated completely to Lilly Pulitzer and opened The Pink Crab in 2002.
Our favorite Lilly Story: Steve fondly recalls a memory of a Lilly buying trip from the early days…We were all in Palm Beach to buy for an upcoming season and Lilly Pulitzer (Yes, the REAL LILLY, pinch me now!) hosted a party at her house for us. Not only was the house TDF, the party was amazing! Of course things got a bit carried away, as they usually do when the Lilly group is involved. A big group of people ended up jumping in Lilly’s pool- fully clothed in their favorite Lilly’s! We knew then and there that this was a group that liked to have the kind of fun that we did!

My 1st year dorm room at UVA was a labor of Lilly Love. I was determined to have a dorm room outfitted in Lilly. Problem was, it wasn’t currently being made! I had to track down all the pieces I needed/wanted (shhh…on eBay)….and finding 15 different bedding items in the same pattern is a chore! But, where there’s a will, there’s a way!
LUCKY FOR YOU, you won’t have to do that! Garnet Hill has an amazing line of Lilly bedding! Even better, we are doing a Garnet Hill Bedding Giveaway- perfect for a Lilly Lover’s dorm room! See below for all the amazing details…Let’s just say, I am pink and green with envy!
