Lilly Pulitzer NY Showroom Welcomes The Young Women’s Leadership School
The Lilly Pulitzer showroom welcomed a fantastic group of young women to explore a “day in the life of” hands on career session. From sales, to marketing, to merchandising and even interning, the girls got an inside look on how the world of fashion functions 21 stories above the busting “Fashion Avenue” in New York City. TYWLS ( The Young Women’s Leadership School) , is a all female, grades 6-12 public school located in East Harlem, that educates women on becoming the next emerging leaders in society through dynamic and hands on learning experiences. Career and college prep is an excellent program that the school provides to equip the girls with the necessary tools to start planning for their futures at an early age.
We kicked off the morning with the Lilly Story and watched the Retrospective and Summer 2011 collection videos so the girls were able to get an idea of the Lilly lifestyle. Heather Adams, director of sales and Joanna Lee, Merchandising director, gave the girls a lesson in sales and merchandising, and Molly Scudder and Sommer Haynes led a market style appointment in which they presented the Summer 2011 line as if the girls were “buyers” from major department stores. After a little round table discussion about fashion, careers and women’s roles in the workplace, we quickly learned we had a diverse group of ladies who wanted to be designers, graphic artists, doctors and even a chemical engineer! We exchanged tips about first jobs, college choices and even a little “academic soul searching” to help share how our experiences in the field led us to where are currently are.
The girls were then put to work! Each young lady was paired up with a LP girl and they had hands on experience to design in store signage, create an event for our Madison Avenue store, calculate sales trends and even assist in choosing items to place in an order. At the end of the day, the girls were able to share with the group what they had learned in their break out session, and let’s just say we had the next VP of Marketing and Sales amongst us! It was so refreshing to be amongst a group of ambitious, driven and hopeful young women who believe there is nothing they cannot do. It put warmth in our hearts on such a cold day, and we all embraced in the inner 15 year old girl that still is inside of us. We LOVED having the inspiring women of the TWYLS visit us, and we hope we have encouraged the girls to think the unimaginable, set goals and to paint the town pink and green!

We are thrilled to announce our feature in the January/February issue of Lonny Magazine! The bimonthly online publication focusing on lifestyle and home décor was started by Michelle Adams and photographer Patrick Cline. Our team is a huge fan of theirs so you can imagine the excitement and buzz their visit to the print studio and King of Prussia store created. Michelle and Patrick surround themselves with inspiring interiors everyday so their recognition of our designs is truly an honor. Lonny believes “in making design choices that lead to personal happiness.” Sound familiar?

Palm Place, a Lilly Pulitzer Signature store, has another retail location in Manasquan, New Jersey. It was in resort towns such as these where it all began for the brand in 1960, when Lilly herself first dreamt up the idea for a brightly colored shift dress.
Located in the former Coach store, this quaint location has a history of luxury and is an ideal new home for Lilly Pulitzer product. “Opening Palm Place Princeton also holds personal meaning, as this will allow myself and my wife Eileen to return to the NJ Shore – the place that’s always been home to us!”

We hope you all had fantastic holidays and would love to hear what you have been up to. Here is a snippet of what Janie did over winter break- surprise, surprise! It involved champagne!
I love the holidays. I mean, love love love. I love the smell of the tree, how the lights make you look like you have a glow…oh wait, maybe that’s the champagne!
Every year I have the print team to my house for a very fancy and fun dinner party to celebrate all the hard work we do. It was a VERY cold and slightly snowy night last week that everyone came over. The fire was blazing and I made…champagne punch! Delicious and deadly. My daughter Sabrina was such a doll, she took everyone’s coat, poured them punch (which is now wall to wall in the bar but who cares, just a little sticky!), passed hors d’ouevres and TOOK PICTURES. She is 8 but clearly knows how to take care of her mother!
I had the table set for 14 with presents for everyone! Have you heard of a Jack Corner Pie? It’s when you wrap a present and attach it to a long ribbon, wind it around the table and have the other end attached to your place card. So the table was full of goodies and so many candles it looked like it might ignite. I just want to spoil the print team so much because I adore them more than words can say. We are like a family and we laugh and hug through everything together! Please note…since I didn’t have a date sweet Abraham was kind enough to step in. He is SO CUTE! Lucky me!
A yummy salad, a chicken and artichoke casserole and an ENOURMOUS chocolate cake later…and all we have to show for it is happy memories and these funny Polaroid’s. Hope you are having some very cheery parties with everyone you love. Sending tons of happiness from the print studio…Happy New Year!

A classic, Lilly favorite, White Christmas is great fun to watch and features Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen. The music is the best, including the title holiday favorite. We quote Lilly…”The movie is kind of silly and dopey, but doesn’t it make it kind of perfect?”
Other Christmas Bests of Lilly’s include FAO Schwarz’s on Fifth Avenue, The Radio City Music Hall’s Christmas Spectacular and London as the best foreign city during the holidays.
