A Colorful Blog

We are so excited to bring back the “Cracker Tracker” this year as we launch into year 3 of our partnership with Barnum’s Animals!  In our first year, Lilly Lovers searched high & low for these adorable little boxes and they used our Facebook page to track where they were found.  Last year we introduced the Cracker Tracker and you all loved it!  We had over 1,500 people mark, via a map pin, where they found their snack boxes of sunshine so other Lilly Lovers could track them down a bit easier.  It must have worked, because we heard Easter baskets were stuffed with them, baby shower attendees were treated to them and so many of you were delighted to find them all over the US!

We were sure to bring back the Cracker Tracker this year so you could help each other find the boxes of Barnum’s Animals!  Be sure to visit our Cracker Tracker online and bookmark the page so you can go treasure hunting yourself!  And don’t be shy- show off your bounty! We love seeing your pins and your pics! Include your picture on our map so we can see you find them. We’re already seeing tweets & Facebook posts from lucky Lilly Lovers who have found them in their local grocery stores!

We can’t wait to see your pins, pics and happy smiling faces!

START TRACKING NOW!

(and tune in next week to learn more about our great partnership this year with Operation Smile – after all, don’t these little boxes just make you SMILE?!?)

Oh moms & dads, going back to school when you’re in college just isn’t the same as grade school. No longer are you simply stocking up on Justin Bieber folders, Hello Kitty pencils and the latest in locker gadgets – oh no, we’ve taken it up a notch. Sure, you still need the basics for studying & such but now we’ve moved from composition books to cosmopolitan looks for our dorm rooms & college apartments.  Stocking up has never been more fun! (and more expensive but really, more fun!)

Here were some goodies a few of us found as we were daydreaming back to our years in college saying “ooohhh, if I was going back to school, I’d totally need these!!”  (I bet JC would’ve liked these too)  Good luck in college ladies & be sure to send us pics of your Lilly-inspired rooms & apartments!

We all know that Lilly prints are constantly inspired by the sea…and sand…and sun. And what’s better than sitting on the beach and soaking in the rays with a fun beverage in your hand? (with those little pink drink umbrellas, of course!)  Well the print studio always gets a liiiiittle kookier during Summer line planning, (as beach vacays, fun drinks, food and friends are what they think about) so it’s no surprise that we looked to our friends at Gosling’s for some inspiration for our Summer ’11 line.

As we mentioned before, choosing the “best,” Mother’s Day was pretty much an impossible task.  The stories were circulated throughout the Pink Palace & we all talked about this one and that one but we kept coming back to Devon’s amazing story and her wonderful photo of 3 generations.  You could feel the love in the photo and in the story and we just had to make it our choice.  I called Devon to let her know she won and she was delighted! I asked her if she’d like me to send her the story back to her through e-mail so she could look it over once more before I posted it here and she told me to just go ahead and post it- she said it was written straight from the heart & she wanted it to be read that way.  She had made a copy of her submission and intended to give it to her mom on Mother’s Day – won’t her mom be surprised to hear there’s a 4 foot x 6 foot piece of original artwork to go with it?!  Giving that prize to Devon and her family made our day and we hope today, all of you got to spend the day with your beloved mothers, daughters, grandmothers and best friends.  Now here is Devon’s story…

We always hear that wearing Lilly makes every occasion feel like a special one but we also know that white is reserved for some of the most (or THE MOST!!!) special occasions and events in our lives.  And you know we never want to miss a good party so we’ve invited ourselves to yours with our spring collection of white dresses!

From the littlest ones making their First Communion and Confirmation to the Cotillion and Spring Fling girls all the way up to the oh-my-gosh-when-did-you-get-so-big girls in their graduation dresses- we have a dress that will make you absolutely dazzle.  Sorority girls- white dresses are a must-have for Greek affairs from rush to bid-day to initiation so be sure to add one (or two or three!) to your collection.  And it goes without saying, one of the most important days in any woman’s life is their wedding day and Lilly can be a part of that too!  Down by the sea or the garden variety, these dresses will make everyone smile as you walk down that aisle!

So will you be darling, daring or drop-dead in our LWDs??

This week we are so proud to host Molly Andrews in our Guest House. Molly is the creator of Chairloom, a local Main Line design service that specialises in the reinvention of antique furniture by reupholstering pieces with fun, fresh fabrics. We love her creative vision, her passion for reusing and reinventing and her childhood memories of Lilly clothing. She used to watch her Lilly clad grandmother rescue injured pelicans with her bare hands and walk them gently to the vet. Now that’s a woman to be admired! With Earth Day this Friday we thought her story was the perfect focus. A few weeks back, we gave Molly some of our left over Summer 2011 fabric, she provided a chair that she found while sifting through a thrift store and we headed to her upholsterer. It was amazing to watch the chair’s transformation. Upholstery is a true art and now one of our lucky readers will be the proud owner of the finished product. Entry details will follow soon but in the meantime check out our q&a to learn more about Molly Andrews and Chairloom.

We’re very excited to welcome Susan Danish, Executive Director of The Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc., into our Guest House today.  Building better communities through service is something very near and dear to Lilly’s heart and the Junior League and their members embody that ideal so partnering with the Junior League to create a custom Murfee was an easy decision.  We asked Susan to tell us a little more about the Junior League so we could share it with all of you…

Tell us a little about the Junior League

The first Junior League was founded in New York City in 1901 and today there are 292 Leagues in four countries – Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom and the United States. There are 155,000 members. Junior Leagues are organizations of women who, through their volunteer leadership and activities, work to improve their communities. Each Junior League is a volunteer led and run nonprofit organization that assesses the most pressing needs in its community and then either creates a program or partners with other organizations, businesses and / or local government to create or build programs that address those needs. Through the decades Leagues have tackled issues like domestic violence, women and alcohol, early childhood education and literacy, human trafficking, childhood obesity, the environment and more.

Junior League members have gone on to found nonprofits, sit on nonprofit boards, run nonprofits, hold appointed or elected offices. Today in the U.S., there are Junior League members in the Senate and House, and one of our most prominent members was the first women appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court, Sandra Day O’Connor. Junior Leagues are diverse organizations who welcome all women who share their passion for giving back and doing so in a meaningful way.
