Lilly Pulitzer was back and better than ever at the Devon Horse Show last week! We’re almost positive our friends in Devon posted “Lilly or Louder” on the attire for the races…or so you would have thought! Mom’s, grandmoms and children of all ages turned out for the oldest horse show in the country wearing some of their favorite Lilly’s…and we were there to see it!
Last Wednesday, Lilly Pulitzer sponsored a hat contest, followed by a sit down ladies luncheon for over 200 guests. We had beautiful, warm weather (and by warm we mean 90 degrees warm) but even the heat didn’t stop some of the Main Line’s loyal Lilly fans from coming out and dressing to the nines in their favorite looks from our Spring and Summer 2011 collection. The day began at 11:30 where guests and hat design contestants were encouraged to make the most Lillyesque inspired Derby hats and parade in front of a panel of judges. Members from Lilly corporate chose a first, second, and third place winner, awarding a tote filled with goodies to the winning hat. (what a tough decision that was!) These contestants weren’t joking around…dressed head to toe in Lilly footwear, dresses, jewelry…and then creating a Lilly inspired hat…they had the total package!
And our fun didn’t end there. Following the hat contest, we hosted a very Lilly lunch in the gazebo. The set up was beautiful (if we do say so ourselves)…Lilly printed tablecloths adorned each table, printed Lilly Chinese lanterns hung from the ceiling, along with Lifeguard press reusable shoppers for the first 100 ladies that arrived to the luncheon! Guests enjoyed a catered lunch, courtesy of our friends at the Devon Horse show, and settled in after their meals for an informal fashion show of our Summer 2011 collection. Janie was on site to MC the show and speak to some of the fun print stories behind our summer clothes. The hot hot heat didn’t stop our Lilly models (both Minnies and Moms!) from strutting their stuff down the runway and throughout the grounds at the horse show. Luncheon guests were able to chat with the models about each of the looks, get a feel for the clothes, and write down some of their favorite styles on a Run of Show list, detailing each look. We’ll admit, we were glad when it was over so that we could get back inside near the AC!
A big thank you goes out to our King Of Prussia and Ardmore store staff and the retail team for all of their help, we couldn’t have done it without you!

There are so many things about this week’s Store of the Week that embody the Lilly spirit- the waterfront location, the beautiful & colorful store, the pink & green oversized “critter” out front of their store (you’ll just have to visit to find out what we mean by that!), the energetic & fabulous store staff and even their store name- Life’s A Beach! And who can argue with that?!

Our store history: Life’s A Beach first opened their doors in 2001, nestled into a small space in the northern Outer Banks Beach town of Corolla. The store was starting to grow out of its space, when an opening became available in the Water Front Shops in Duck. Life’s A Beach owners Mary & Brendan Magner, soon made the move southward to open in its current location overlooking the beautiful waters of the Currituck Sound. After an expansion, and other renovations over the years, Life’s A Beach continues to be THE one stop shop for all your Resort Chic needs on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
We pine all year long for the arrival of our summer interns and I am HAP-PPPYY to say that they’ve arrived!! (most of them, that is) Our summer interns always bring a lot of sunshine, smiles and energy to an already colorful Pink Palace so we love, love, love when they start! They might just be interns but we have them working on some preeety cool stuff (and no, we don’t consider getting coffee for people cool) but it’s no cake walk either. (though I think we’ve had cake twice already since they’ve been here. I digress…) The bottom line is we are so excited to have them here, they’re excited to be here and we hope to share some of their experiences with you here on the blog! Welcome to our interns!!!……….
June is a favorite month for soooo many reasons; graduation parties, school lets out, weddings, pools open, beach weekends and of course, the official first day of summer falls on June 21st! Is it any wonder we celebrate the whole month long?! (though Lilly girls will find any reason to throw a party!)
We kick off June with our annual Lilly Lover Days Photo Contest! Each year we try to do something a little different and this year is no exception. This time around, we want to see you in your Summer Lilly and we want to know where you plan to wear it! Will you be lighting up the dance floor in our new Crystal dress at your cousin’s wedding? Or will you be riding your Lilly cruiser in our Callahan’s and Lexi Crew? Whatever the occasion, wherever the destination – Summer is made for Lilly! Here are details on how you can join in the fun:!

First Lady Michelle Obama was feted as the guest of honor at the annual Congressional Club luncheon held last Wednesday at the Washington Hilton, hosted by spouses of Members of Congress. At the bi-partisan luncheon, Mrs. Obama spoke to the guests about her Joining Forces campaign, and danced to the tunes of Latin pop icon Gloria Estefan.
More than 2,000 guests attended the three-hour Florida-themed affair, including spouses of Cabinet members, the US Supreme Court and the leadership of the Senate and House. During her remarks, Mrs. Obama honored members of the armed forces and their families. The event was chaired by Mrs. Pat Mica, wife of Rep. John Mica of Florida. Each year, the event theme is inspired by the state where the event chair lives. How fitting that Mrs. Mica would think of Lilly Pulitzer to carry the Floridian themed luncheon! (We think it was a fabulous idea!)
Lee Jofa, our soon-to-launch fabric partner, provided the table linens so guests could dine at Lilly Pulitzer tables. Every guest, including The First Lady, received a Lilly Pulitzer printed gift bag. Lilly Pulitzer also provided the white dresses seen on the lovely attendants! Guests had a fabulous time and the beach theme had everyone wishing summer would come just a little faster. We were honored to have been a part of the event and want to thank Mrs. Mica for including Lilly!
Well we think our whole cocktail delivery sparkles but we wanted to highlight one of our best selling beauties. We luxed up the shift and her name is Karlee! She is the perfect dress for that summer party with jazz! Or — dress her down with your McKim’s and sprinkle just enough sparkle to a summer brunch! (already sold out online!) Karlee’s floating jewels (a design trend we’re looooving!) creates a look that requires no extra jewelry- shimmer & shine included!
Not sure you can pull off the sheer panel adorned with beading detail? (we think you absolutely can) Fear not. Grace your summer party with Crystal, Julianne, Daphne or Kelley!
One of our favorite Pack for Paradise partners over the last year has been JetBlue. They’ve partnered with us on several occasions to fly our lucky winners to paradise (it’s easy to love them when they deliver you to heaven!) So when they reached out to us and asked about Janie’s baggage, we thought it was a liiiittle personal but we listened. Turns out they put together a fun program promoting the fact that they offer customers a first checked bag-free all while raising money for children in America. We love JetBlue and we thought it sounded fun so we got on board by donating a Janie-signed Originals Carry On! (complete with an autographed headshot of our favorite blonde along with a signed luggage tag!)
JetBlue does a better job describing the program so here are the details straight from them!

We’re always quoting some of the fun things Lilly said during her time in building this brand, but the one quote that really resonated with her consumers; the one with more meaning for all of us is, “If you have no charity in your heart, you have the worse type of heart trouble.”
Based on Lilly’s belief in giving back to her community (and having fun while doing it!), the Lilly Pulitzer brand is always doing things, sometimes small, sometimes big, in supporting national and local organizations, events and communities. One of the ways we do this is through our corporate stores program called “Shop & Shares.” If you’re a fan on our Facebook page, you’ve likely seen us post something about these parties from time to time. Shop & Shares are a fun way to raise money & awareness about your organization while, in true Lilly form, throwing a great bash!
