In the Guest House with The Breast Cancer Charities of America

Last Friday we introduced our partnership with The Breast Cancer Charities of America (BCCA) for the month of October.  And today, we are very excited to have them in our Guest House so they can tell you a little bit more about themselves.  Fortunately there are a lot of organizations that have an active role in fighting breast cancer and the toll it takes on our lives but sometimes it’s hard to understand who does what.  Which is another reason we wanted to feature more about BCCA because we really believe in the role they’re playing right now (with their aptly named “Help Now Fund“) in the lives of women affected by breast cancer.  We really encourage you to read more about this wonderful group and get involved to help make a difference.  Here’s Erica…

Can you give us a brief understanding of what The Breast Cancer Charities of America is all about?

The Breast Cancer Charities of America is the only non-profit bringing the “integrated cancer care” message to the women of America, where the care ‘program’ involves every aspect of body, mind and spirit treatment to the cancer prevention, treatment and recovery effort. Integrated cancer care is employed in addition to, not in place of, orthodox medicine as many studies show that techniques like diet, exercise, and social support can be as powerful as drugs and surgery. Through our iGoPink: Fashion Fights Breast Cancer campaign, BCCA brings a fresh approach to finding the cure.

BCCA exists to deliver this message to women with breast cancer and to educate healthcare providers with this news. The result: we will change medicine and we will save lives.

What is the biggest difference between your organization and other Breast Cancer charities?

We would say that the two biggest points of differentiation are that…

1- We focus on the actual patient that is going through BC. When patients call, they’re looking for help, and now. That’s when/why we started the Help Now Fund. Women need immediate help the second they’re diagnosed…some financially, some emotionally…and we’re here to do just that. But we focus on the patient. We still fund non-invasive breast cancer research and educational program services targeted at younger University aged women: teaching them the importance of early detection and how simple things like working out and healthy eating can help prevent breast cancer. But our main focus remains the actual patient going through breast cancer.

2- Our focus on the importance of health/nutrition and an integrated cancer program. There’s SO much a woman can do for herself in both preventing and treating breast cancer. It’s the mind/body/spirit combination that we focus on and see it as critical in the health of the women we help every single day.

Explain what the Help Now Fund and what it does for its beneficiaries.

The Help Now Fund is such a wonderful program where we help women going through breast cancer with the basic necessities of life like rent and utilities. We get calls constantly from single mothers who have to pick between getting treatment/going to the doctors or paying their rent for the month. Through the Help Now Fund we help the patient.. NOW, not in 6 months time, but NOW.

If someone wants to get involved with BCCA, what can they do?

They are a number of ways to get involved with our ongoing Pink Programs. The best way to find out what might interest/help you is by logging onto and have a look around.  You can also connect with us on Facebook to keep up with all the fun/ongoing events and connect with the active community we have there.

We will NEVER get tired of hearing ______________.

“I’m a survivor” – from the women we help.

We are excited to partner with Lilly Pulitzer because ______________.

What better and more perfect “Pink Partnership” than with a leader in the women’s fashion industry that focuses on ‘women helping women’…be it through breast cancer or a bad day, put on something Lilly and pink and you can’t help but smile!
