Jose, Visual Director here at Lilly, came back with a dark tan, a HUGE smile & over 700 pictures from his recent trip to Greece. We couldn’t wait to hear the details and when we did- we just had to share. Here’s Jose to tell you about his AH-MA-ZING trip (and the sandals he won’t stop talking about)…
My 10-day whirlwind in Greece started with champagne and chocolates in Athens at the Grande Bretagne. Then off to Crete to enjoy the country and peaceful outdoors at the Blue Palace. And then to Mykonos via propeller plane, where we rented ATV’s to explore the party island of Greece and enjoy the amazing Sunset at the Santa Marina….
I was greatly inspired by the timeless and enduring charm of one of the world’s most historic countries. Greece has an ancient culture that has had a significant influence on the arts, language, philosophy, politics, and sports of western society. I was surprised to discover a country with such regional and architectural diversity as well. I was so obsessed with the famous whitewashed homes and charming blue-domed churches. Architecture varies greatly from one region to the next depending on the local history. I was in LOVE with the pastel-colored baroque homes and churches on Crete, the marble buildings in Athens and the white washed buildings and pops of brilliant blues in Mykonos. Greece’s terrain is just as varied as its architectural heritage: idyllic beaches, towering mountain ranges, wine-producing valleys, vast stretches of olive orchards EVERYWEHERE – did you know that Athena gave the Greeks the olive tree??……
Highlights included the climb up to Acropolis means “high city” in Greek, indulging myself with rich sweets and an after lunch and dinner drink – ouzo……… And did I mention laying out on the beach EVERYDAY??…………..
Well, what can I say……..LOVED Greece and I will truly remember this trip forever…….
1/ Sailboats – let’s just say I HEART anything nautical, so when I saw these colorful boats just docked everywhere….I took a
gazillion pictures of them. The colors are so vibrant and fun, just like our Lilly prints……
2/ Candy shops in every corner of Athens……….did I mention I have a sugar tooth!
3/ These embroidered traditional Greek slippers are just too adorable to pass up……..I got them for my niece just because……
4/ While not as dramatic as that “other” Changing of the Guard in London, England, it’s fun to watch the synchronized
movements of the costumed guards. They are carefully selected and most of them are very
tall, averaging over 6’3“……hmmmmmm….I am a sucker for uniforms and tall guys………
5/ The best place for sunset in the island of Mykonos would probably be at the Elysium Hotel ………….. With a glass of bubbly of
6/ A day shot of the Acropolis – just a recommendation, if you are going to climb it, WEAR reasonable shoes, my footwear of
choice that day was more fashionable (meaning painful) than functional!
7/ Ok there’s a trend here…I like shoes, no secret. These were made by Pandelis Melissinos, like his father Stavros Melissinos
– a poet, an artist, a playwright, and an AMAZING sandal maker to add…….Their family has fitted shoes for the Beatles, Sophia
Loren, Rudolph Nureyev, Margo Fontaine, Jackie Onassis, Anthony Quinn, George Pappard, Ursula Andress, Joseph Cotten and
Gary Cooper and now yours truly……LOL
8/ The best beach in Mykonos – Super Paradise……..BTW it’s a clothing optional beach, that’s why I took the picture with a
more blurred focus…….And NO, I was wearing my bathing suit.
