Our Store History: Ted Smith, owner of Palm Place, opened his first store in Shadyside, Pennsylvania back in 2003 when he and his wife, Eileen moved to the Pittsburg area. Turns out, Ted was actually born in Pittsburg many years ago (he said this, I swear we’re not calling him old!) but hadn’t returned since he was a tot and he was excited to bring the Lilly brand and story westward. Shortly after the Shadyside location opened, another Palm Place opened in Sewickly, PA. Manasquan was actually the 3rd location Ted opened in 2005. Last year, Ted & Eileen made a bittersweet decision to return to their old haunts of the Jersey Shore to be closer to friends & family. (Ted is going to be a first-time grandfather very soon!) As they settled down in New Jersey, they opened their newest location in Princeton!
Our Lilly Story: Ted has a family connection to Lilly herself. As luck would have it, Ted’s aunt actually went to school with Lilly at Miss Porters many moons ago. He heard lots of stories from his aunt and after meeting Lilly many times, he’s preeety sure all those stories are true!
Our favorite product from the Fall ’11 delivery is… The Sadie Dress printed in Skye Blue Thrill of the Chaise. A flattering fit for all figure types and so easy to wear right now. Looks as great with a Shorely Blue sweater from Spring or a Navy piece from Fall so it transitions well. (Also looks cute with the Sullivan belt!)
About our town/shopping center… We are located right on Main Street in downtown Manasquan, a perfect shore town right on the Atlantic Ocean. Although we are a summer destination for visitors from afar, we are a year ’round home to many. We have great neighbors in local restaurants and charming boutiques- shopping is a fun pastime on Main Street. (on busy days our customers can park right in the back of our store!) On Saturdays in the Fall the High School Marching Band leads the town to the field after marching down the street and our Chamber of Commerce provides a great variety of activities all year long.
A favorite customer story… we have wonderful customers who are not only loyal to the brand, but to us. We often help multi-generations of Lilly Lovers and that is so much fun as each discovers the perfect piece for weddings, birthdays and photos on the beach.
Our store is unique because…We are located at the beach, but summer never ends here because of our many year ’round residents and variety of activities. We are a small town in size but our proximity to New York and Philadelphia makes us cosmopolitan as well. Our customers wear their Lillys to work, vacation and fundraising events.
