We all know that Lilly prints are constantly inspired by the sea…and sand…and sun. And what’s better than sitting on the beach and soaking in the rays with a fun beverage in your hand? (with those little pink drink umbrellas, of course!) Well the print studio always gets a liiiiittle kookier during Summer line planning, (as beach vacays, fun drinks, food and friends are what they think about) so it’s no surprise that we looked to our friends at Gosling’s for some inspiration for our Summer ’11 line.
A few days (and perhaps some print studio Happy Hours) later, the print studio unveiled our limited edition “Dark ‘n Stormy” Originals print! Our designers featured the Gosling’s iconic Black Seal, barrel, and flavorful drink to create this sea-scape design. (they left out the pink umbrellas and added in pirate ships!)
Why do we love Gosling’s so? (beyond the deliciously obvious) They are Bermuda-based first and foremost (and the largest exporter of a Bermuda-made product) and they formed their business in resort towns nationwide during the 1950s, just as Lilly Pulitzer did. To top it off, one of Lilly’s first (and still favorite) accounts, Cécile, is located on the island of Bermuda, and inspired the resort town tradition that is still present in the Lilly Pulitzer brand.
So grab your shift and your friends (and perhaps a few highballs if you’re inclined and of age) and kick-off summer in style!
