QR You Ready?

Posted on May 11, 2011 in More Fun by | 2 comments

It was just as we thought today on Facebook; a lot of you already know what a QR code is.  Quite simply, a QR code or quick response code, is a readable or scannable bar code that you can use, usually with an app, with your smartphone that will take you to an online destination.  For those of you who may not have noticed these before, you will now see them EVERYWHERE.  They really are popping up in all sorts of places; in magazines, on the back of cereal boxes, on home for sale signs, on restaurant menus, even on tombstones (ok, well that’s in Japan but you see where I’m going with this)

QR codes are especially useful for the retail environment. You can bring the online and in-store together by way of mobile; now being referred to as “Brick & Mobile.”  There are so many ways you can use these tech gems (more to surely come!) but we’re starting simple- the code above takes you to our Facebook page. For those who are not yet a fan, with the scan of this code, you can quickly become one!  Do you want to get started?!?  Here’s how you can get in on the fun:

1. Get out your smartphone
2. Download some kind of QR code scanner (every phone platform will have numerous apps you can use)
3. Find a QR code to test (like the above)
4. Open your app and follow the app instructions (some will simply have you hold your camera over the app & it will automatically take you to the url & some you may need to follow a step or two before getting to your ultimate online destination)

It’s really quite easy and though I’m admittedly a tech geek myself, I think they’re fun!  You never know what you’re going to find behind that little square. (but be warned- some aren’t quite as fun as others & may unlock spam so be sure only to use them from a trusted source)

You should see the Lilly PINK QR codes popping up in our store windows (see above!) so be on the lookout and give them a try!  And we’d love to see your Facebook pics of them too!
