We asked Janie what she likes to read in the summer, there is nothing better than catching some rays and enjoying a good read… tap into your inner bookworm Lilly Lovers!
Hi Friends!
Believe it or not…in addition to designing and being a fabulous MOM…I read constantly. I come a from a big family of readers…we just tear through them and pass them on! When I am traveling I bring at least 2 books…scared that I could finish one and be BOOKLESS for a flight. Purgatory sounds like more fun.
Soooo, I have been reading some pretty racy things this summer. I will tell you all about them. In addition there are just STAPLE amazing summer reads. A little juicy. Maybe some glamorous people, in glamorous places, doing glamorous things. I love a little candy coated history…throw in a dash of chic-lit and your summer is complete. Here’s my list…and please, please, please tell me your fav’s, I will go get them!
Glamorous people doing glamorous things…

The Gold Coast by Nelson Demille
The pages are on fire as you turn them. Modern version of The Great Gatsby. TDF. Takes place in the Hamptons…really…what could be more glamorous than that!
Chic lit..

CLEARLY anything by Candace Bushnell. I just tore through The Carrie Diaries which I KNOW is for teens…but hey, buy it and share it with your babysitter. There is no age limit on this – fun for all!

History-ish…fiction but seems ‘real’. This is for all of you that loved The Help (which I adored…I grew-up in Georgia and related to a lot of the book, very good!)

The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom
Takes place 1800′s in the height of slavery. A glimpse into life on a plantation. Really good.
Adventure! We have that…

The White Rhino Hotel by Bartle Bull
I stole this from the amazon.com description: Bull’s novel is a steamy adventure filled with lust, villains, heroes, and antiheroes. The plot focuses on an ensemble of colonists and natives as they struggle to survive in a Kenya opened up to British veterans in 1919. Most of the action centers around Anton Rider, a gypsy from England.
So let’s recap…steamy adventure, lust, a gypsy. AHHH. Sounds fabulous right! It is.
Travel…always fun to read a book that transports you. In this case to Provence, so lovely!

A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle
I have actually read all of his books and you should too, but start here. I just grabbed his latest The Vintage Caper and will let you know how it is.
You can ALWAYS throw in some classics, like Valley of the Dolls or ANYTHING by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I adore every book he wrote because they are soooo incredibly CHIC!
Wait, almost forgot racy. Don’t read this is you can’t handle it and don’t get mad at me if you don’t like it…

Sugarbabe: The Controversial Story of a Woman in Search of a Sugardaddy
I’m just saying…summer is for racy page-turners right?!?!?!?

Well, now you have me dreaming of reading my book on the boat soaking in some rays (ps I will be wearing sunscreen thanks to my LOVE Mary Lane in Winter Park who sent me a goodie package after the memorial day burn! Thank you ML!xx). I will also be wearing my Lilly Pulitzer aviators. I adore them. They have been though a lot with me. They are a little scratched because I abuse them TERRIBLY but I just can’t move onto another pair, I love them too much. Probably a hat to protect my newly colors (uuuuber blonde!) hair. The white regan over a bikini. Skinny Mckims in gold.

THIS IS THE GOOD LIFE!!!!! Oh wait, I have to work now. IT WILL BE THE GOOD LIFE THIS WEEKEND! Sending tons of love!
xx, Janie
