Greetings From The Lilly Distribution Center!

Our friends in the DC wanted to share how your Lilly gets to you! Read on to get the inside scoop! …

We are new to this whole blogging thing so please bear with us. We thought we would give the fans of Lilly (you) a little look closer of how we bring a colorful life to you. It all started with a juice stand…… You’ve heard that story before, how about this one. For us it starts in many different countries around the world. From South America to the Far East our product is made all over. The garment that you ultimately end up loving forever has started it’s journey with a long trip to our Distribution Center in Pennsylvania.

It is sent to us by air and sea. Some of the garments travel a long way on a sea vessel and some take a quick 21 hour flight on a plane.

The product is then counted and received by our receiving department, where they send garments to our quality department (located in the same building). The quality department inspects the garment to make sure nothing is wrong with the product before sending it out. We then test the durability by having two strong men play tug-o-war with the garment… Just checking to see if you are still paying attention, we don’t do that…yet!

Pictured below is our receiving department, and if you look closely you can see our quality department to the left (under the bright lights!!!!)

After the garment clears our receiving department it is ready to be stocked in either our e-commerce picking locations ( to order (shameless plug)…wow parenthesis inside of parenthesis, I bet you’ve never seen that before) or our picking locations that ultimately go to our Retail, Major, Signature and Specialty stores.

The E-Commerce area is pictured below. These are the normal picking locations (look how fast we’re selling out and clearing shelves!) :

Once the garments are stocked in their appropriate locations we receive orders that are to be shipped to all of our customers (Stores and Individuals). Labels are printed with the appropriated information on them and one of the distribution associates packs up the orders one by one. Love and Care is placed in every carton by our distribution associates (and that’s free of charge). Are you getting sick of the parenthesis yet??? I know I am not as funny as Janie but who is right? Janie is our Rita Rudner.

The carton with the garments then takes a fun ride down the lengthy conveyor belt (think Laverne and Shirley minus Squiggy, I’ve oftenthought of putting my work glove on a carton that is moving on the conveyor and wave to it. All while skipping and saying “1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 Schlemiel! Schlimazel! Hasenpfeffer Incorporated!”

It goes down the conveyor belt to our shipping department.. (pictured below) and there is Jessie our Shipping Group Lead.. say hi Jessie!

The packages are processed and sent down the rest of the conveyor right into a big, big UPS trailer. Thats get all packed up and sent on its way!

The last step is the garment reaches you door and you end up loving it for the rest of your life. Isn’t Lilly great! It lifts up your spirits, makes you look great and puts everyone else in a good mood.

Like this guy, look how happy he is to deliver you your new Lilly Pulitzer® Dress. Now if we could only get UPS to change from that brown attire into a nice pink and green uniform, the world would be a better place.

See, now that is much better…. Well hopefully I didn’t bore you too much. But that is how we bring a colorful life to you!

Matt and the entire DC Team!

Oh la la! I’ve always wondered what the distribution center looked like. I prefer “what can Lilly do for you?” over “what can brown do for you?”!!! Xoxo-BLC
