Marcy from the Merchandising Team heads off on a end of summer vaca. She always takes the best vacations! Last year she hiked the steps and navigated the little streets of Capri after city-hopping through Italy. She sent us an update this year, do you know where she is?
This is the perfect spot for both adventure and relaxation! The Inner Harbor here is bustling with people shopping for local made crafts, getting a quick bite at one of the on-the-dock seafood shacks, or hopping off a float plane. This island is a hot spot (literally) for sailors and tourists due to the Mediterranean temps that run throughout the year. This Island, as well as its neighbor the USA’s San Juan Islands, offer some of the best whale watching ever!
The summer is the BEST time to catch resident and transient Orca Whales (ie: Killer Whales for those Shamu lovers) swimming right off the coast. We took a zodiac tour (one of those raft-like boats) to get both a high-speed adventure ride (for my hubby) and, of course the most amazing pics (don’t forget to wear gloves and a hat! It’s can get a bit chilly)! Below is a pic of a SUPER POD! (cool name huh? It’s when a really large group of these whales get together)
Check out the sea lion up above! If you go, do not miss them and the harbor seals off of Race Rocks…you will know when you get there when you hear the chorus of loud barks!
Next up we headed to Barb’s Place, a floating take-out seafood shack on the dock at Fisherman’s Warf for some fried goodness…yummy! (No dieting on vaca- it’s not allowed!!) We actually got to hand feed the Harbor Seals that were begging for fish off the docks. I also did a quick real estate scan of the float homes (yup, these houses have a permanent water view).
Next we headed inland… and took a day trip to Butchart Gardens to see the beautiful display of flowers in their five amazing gardens. It’s no surprise why this is one of the most popular destinations on the island. I was nice and toasty and fit right in with my new green Shere Sweater Coat!
After a busy day of sightseeing, my recommendation for the best hidden treasure is II Terrazzo, a fantastic, authentic, Italian gem deep down an alleyway downtown. It has the best ambience; with multiple fire places burning as you dine and cuddle, it’s a truly romantic experience.
P.S. Get a raspberry Kir Royal Italiano…or two…or three!!!
Where are we???
